It was, at least, a relief to not be the last one in the room, and the Tailor's eyes flicked up from their own notebook as the individual with the cane scurried into the back row and emptied the contents of their carpetbag onto the table. The contents of a person's bag could be quite revealing. Notebooks, pens, loose gauze for bandages, a stray glove. What caught their eye was the sketch of a beetle that stuck out of a book, like a loose page-marker.
The student settled into the final seat just to the Tailor's right and, in what seemed like an ironic turn of events, began to do something quite similar to what they had been; opening their little book, scratching marks into it that would only be discernible to oneself, looking round the room. Rinse, repeat. There was, however, a touch less subtlety to the action.
Quietly, and without lifting their head from their own book, the Tailor placed their hand on the book with the sketch poking out, and pushed it a little away from their own space, back into the mess in front of their new companion. "You'll be wanting to keep that in reach, I imagine," they said, low but clear as to be heard.
ooc: hope i didn't overstep! was inspired by Thursday's bandages and profile on how to leave a calling card!!
