They barely flinch when the bite happens, they are basically thrown on top of the Piper during the initial lunge and uses that as leverage to pull the other's jaws open. they care not about the proctor, they need the top bit too--

The Mechanic falls and scrambles like a cat who has not been given enough airtime to land on its feet. Its on the ground looking up at the Piper when it says, "Well played :)"
